In this episode…

We’ve invited on Norris Frederick to join us. Norris is an Olympic long jumper turned social media consultant and creator. Like Jon, he is also a black American living in America. Norris just released a 6-minute video on his Instagram channel called Breaking the Silence, in which he speaks publicly for the first time about what it feels like to be a black person in America. It’s currently passed 230,000 views.

Norris doesn’t sugar coat anything in this conversation. He shares exactly how he feels, and he shares some of the experiences that have led him to feel this way. Before you listen to this podcast, I highly encourage you to watch his video. Then join us for a wide-ranging discussion of what it’s like to be a black man in America, what makes this time different, and why Norris is skeptical that this will lead to lasting change.

As for me, I can’t pretend to understand what it’s been like for Jon, Norris, and all the other black men in America. But I appreciated being able to participate in this discussion. It was important for me to hear their stories. It’s important for all of us to hear more stories like theirs.

Jon and I will continue our conversations every Tuesday, and a new interview will be posted every Friday.
